Zug, Switzerland, 22 January, 2002: The IP Datacast Forum has been formally constituted and is committed to take an active role promoting the use of IP (Internet Protocol) based services over digital broadcast networks.

Following the pioneering work of the initial founding members announced at IBC-2001, the IP Datacast Forum was formally established on 22 January at an Extraordinary General Assembly held in Zug, Switzerland.

The following twelve member companies are committed under the Terms of Association to work together to contribute to the development of a common vision, and long-term plan for IP based services.

Crown Castle International Philips
Deutsche Telekom Rohde&Schwarz
Digita Sonera
NDS Sony
NTL Teracom

Keith Hayler (Crown Castle International) was elected as Chairman, with Jouni Kamarainen (Nokia) elected as Vice Chairman & Secretary. The five member Steering Group is comprised of Riku Salminen (Digita), Frederick Maizeret (Teracom), Terry Howard (NTL), Torsten Jaekel (Rohde&Schwarz) and Allan Arthurs (Sony).

Open to new members from throughout the industry, the Forum will act as a catalyst to facilitate the growth of IP based content-rich multimedia applications for delivery via a variety of digital broadcast networks by developing a common set of implementation processes and operating standards.

"The goals of the Forum are well aligned with the rapid convergence of broadcasting and telecommunications" said Keith Hayler of Crown Castle International, the newly elected chairman. "While the initial group of member companies have significant breadth of expertise in this area, we are now actively seeking to expand the membership with a view to a major contribution to the delivery of IP based services" he added.
